I just purchased a Euclid wheel loader from a local farmer who finally decided it was time for a new JCB. It is a Euclid preproduction L-20. It has the 3-71 Detroit which I believe, according to Eric Orelemanns' Euclid book, makes it an L-20, 3UPM. The book also states that there were only 30 pre-production L20s and L30s made in 1958. Does anyone know where the serial number is stamped? Also, how many are still out there, I know I've seen at least one in a past magazine, I believe it was in a Euclid display at one of the past HCEA shows. I worked on this loader quite a number of years ago and told the farmer I would like to buy it when he was finished with it. It took over 10 years but it finally happened. I have to think that there probably are not to many left after 48 years. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I'm curious about your loader since I operated Euclid belly dumps. Is this loader a commercial unit? if not then if it were used by the Army Corps of Engineers or military spec and you'd have a I.D. badge somewhere in a flat place that maybe inside the cab. Have any pictures?

This is a commercial unit, built I believe in or around 1958. To the best of my knowledge they built 30 pre-production L-20 and L-30 machines. I've posted pictures in the gallery under Your equip. photos. You can see that it's the rounded Euclid style machine, totally different than the production wheel loaders. This one has had a ROPs added and some of the body parts are missing but otherwise seems to be complete. Any info you might have would be appreciated.
