Hello
Ive got a Cat 12 with a stuck clutch. Its gas start so we have been able to run it,the machine sat for about 8 years fromwhat i was told. Its gas start,so we have been able to run it,tried pushing dirt till the wheels spin, chaining it to to one of our crawler cranes and jerking it all with the clutch pedal pushed to the floor. It wont break loose.Anyone else suffered this circumstance?Any ideas?
Thanks
Dave

Hi tugger,
As I recall if the clutch is all the way to the floor, you'll have engaged the clutch brake (if it's properly adjusted). Try about half way or three quarter instead.

More than likely the clutch, flywheel and disk have frozen together and you'll have to split the engine from the tranny. It's a heavy bugger so be prepared.

I'd try anchoring the clutch pedal most of the way down and then, using a tow bar type arrangement rock it back & forth, but it may take a while. I've done this before with success.

Hi
We gave up on trying to break it loose and pulled the engine.Had to pry the plates loose. It
seemed easier this way and there was no risk of wrecking anything by jerking and pulling.
Thanks

I was afraid you might have to pull the engine. Did any of the fiber disk get stuck to the flywheel or driven disk? If it was just light rust holding everything together it can be cleaned up with a little orbital sander and #80 grit paper.
