Hello, I am looking at a Northwest model 18 thats for sale. I am new to draglines/shovels. Does anyone have any info or advice on this machine. It has a boom for dragline work, and a shovel also. It has a flathead V-8 in it thats supposed to run. I could not find any info on a model 18, are they a rare machine? What is a machine like this worth? Thanks, BEST60

The Northwest 18 was a 1/2 cy. size machine, it competed with the Bucyrus Erie 15-B,
The Unit 614, the Bay City 30 and the Lorain 30.
It was droprd from the line after the Second World War and the Model 25 a 3/4 cy. machine was the smallest offered.
As for what it's worth, it depends on condition, does it run, what work does it need to be mobile and the most important, what are you willing to spend?
What is the location of the machine, do you have any pictures and what is the owner asking.
Let me know.
Good Luck,
Bob McCloskey

Well I waited too long and the model 18 has been sold :( The new owner is going to keep it and use it. At least its not going to scrap. So I guess I will keep looking for another machine. I want something small, like a 10-b or a 15-b. I am in nevada so a machine on the west coast is good for me. Thanks, BEST60

Hey Best60. On the Northwest 18, did the buyer take all the accessories, shovel front and boom sections? I have an NW 18 crane, but shovel front would be neat for it. I am a bit South of you but at least on the correct coast.

Hey bigdipper. Would love to trade photos. My 18 is pretty plain. Not much to look at. Flathead Ford, and angle iron boom.
