Appalachian Mining Heritage Coalition Support Campaign 11/28/06

Efforts are underway for a major campaign to show support for the efforts to save the Silver Spade in Eastern Ohio. Efforts need your financial support, letters, and phone calls. The coalition recommends everyone wanting to see the Silver Spade preserved contact the following list and let them know you want the Silver Spade preserved and why you want the Silver Spade saved. Let Ohio House and Senate members know you want the Silver Spade preserved and recommend they support funding to help Save the Silver Spade.

Thanks,

Unfortunately, this appeal is a little late in coming. As noted in the current lead story on our home page, Consol has signed a contract for the Silver Spade to be scrapped, effectively ending the preservation effort.

I have confirmed this information with Mrs. Claren Blackburn of the Harrison Coal & Reclamation Historical Park (HC&RHP). Mrs. Blackburn spearheaded the preservation effort since it began, and is closer to the action than any of us.
