A member without access to the Internet needs to know the correct rotation for a 3-71 Detroit Diesel to be installed in a Lorain L25A shovel. He says the model number of the engine tells the rotation. Does anyone have this information?

Thanks in advance,

The serial number should read 371R--- for right hand rotation and 371L--- for left hand rotation. The next digit after the R or L refers to which side the accesories and manifolds, ect are placed. This would be an A,B,C, or D. Engine rotation is determined from the front looking towards the flywheel. This information is in the front section of all Detroit engine maintenance manuals.
